AVALEX SELECTED SMALL BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

The Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce named Avalex Technologies Small Business of the Month for August. Avalex has more than 15 years of experience in every aspect of manufacturing rugged and reliable aircraft display systems, digital recorders and digital moving map systems to include hardware and software integration, development and modification, chamber officials said in a news release announcing the award.
The company is the leading national supplier of flat panel displays, digital mapping systems, digital video recorders and sensor pointing systems for both the airborne surveillance and military markets, the release said. Avalex continues to grow year to year and was recently named to Inc. 5,000's list of fastest-growing companies for the second consecutive year. All Avalex engineering, design, manufacturing, sales, support and repairs are performed at their Pensacola facility.

From a helicopter cockpit, Tampa police Flight Officer Todd Curabba can plot his route to any address in four states and estimate his travel time. Avalex has more than electronic maps. It allows pilots to transmit images to terminals on the ground, direct travel routes and mark places for investigators where suspects abandon weapons. In hurricane-ravaged areas, Avalex can show aid workers detailed maps of Florida, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as aerial photographs and live camera images. Read more...

Against the backdrop of one of Pensacola's most successful entrepreneurial businesses, Gov. Jeb Bush on Thursday touted economic gains made under his leadership. Bush toured Avalex Technologies in downtown Pensacola with owner Tad Ihns, met employees and briefly operated a high-tech infrared camera manufactured on site for use in aircraft avionics. According to Tad Ihns, owner and founder of Avalex Technologies, their products rely on innovation in electrical, mechanical and software engineering and we have three primary lines of products. All branches of the U.S. military, both domestic and foreign, domestic and foreign police, and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies use these systems. Airborne digital mapping systems, developed in two years by Avalex and selected by both U.S. Customs and the Drug Enforcement Administration for their fleet of helicopters within 18 months of product introduction. FIREPOWER TO FIREFIGHTERS

To most effectively fight wildfires, the fielding of Human Aiding Technology (HAT) is necessary. With that in mind, US Forest Service developed FIREWATCH, a program that fields a package of HAT items. The program operator would need to have the ability to accurately determine the geographic position of targets. Working together, the Forest Service, FLIR Systems and Avalex achieved a level of unprecedented accuracy. Integration between the FLIR Systems camera and the Avalex mapping system, created the ability for producing information with a high degree of accuracy without the need for complex interpretation.
